Zakat

Zakat is a sacred obligation in Islam — a means of purifying wealth and uplifting those in need. AL MUZZAMMIL FOUNDATION ensures your Zakat is distributed correctly, transparently, and responsibly.

What is Zakat?

Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. It is a mandatory charity given once a year when a Muslim’s wealth reaches the Nisab threshold. Zakat purifies wealth and supports eligible recipients such as the poor, needy, and those facing hardship.

Purification

Zakat cleanses your wealth from greed and selfishness, bringing blessings and spiritual growth.

Obligation

Every eligible Muslim must give 2.5% of their surplus wealth annually to fulfil their Zakat duty.

Distribution

Zakat must be given to specific categories of people mentioned in the Qur’an — ensuring fairness and justice.

Who Can Receive Zakat?

The Qur’an (Surah At‑Tawbah 9:60) lists eight categories of people eligible to receive Zakat.

1. The Poor (Fuqara)

Those who have little or no income.

2. The Needy (Masakeen)

Those who struggle to meet basic needs.

3. Zakat Administrators

Those who collect and distribute Zakat.

4. New Muslims

Those who have embraced Islam and need support.

5. Those in Debt

People burdened by legitimate debts.

6. In the Path of Allah

Those striving for the sake of Allah.

7. Stranded Travelers

People who are stuck and need assistance.

8. Liberation

Helping free individuals from oppression or captivity.
